The Sisters of Divine Providence motherhouse, Providence Heights, has been a hallmark in the North Hills of Pittsburgh for nearly 100 years. Built in 1926, this now-aging physical plant would require extensive renovations and repairs to bring it up to modern, sustainable standards in order to care for our Sisters. To “right size” for the future, when our community is smaller, we embarked on the construction of “The Commons” at Providence Heights. Our new three-story residential and health care facility, will consist of a mix of health care rooms, private independent rooms and apartments and offer up-to-date care for our current and future health needs. Site amenities will include an outdoor dining terrace, community garden, health care garden and walking paths that connect to the rest of the campus.

The name “The Commons” at Providence Heights acknowledges that all we have comes from our Provident God and is to be held in common. Situating “The Commons” at Providence Heights honors the original name of the whole property, preserves the legacy of the Sisters of Divine Providence and allows us to continue our ministry to God’s people through education, health care, caring for the poor and marginalized, retreat centers, social justice and advocacy.
