Advent

It is a tradition for many Christians throughout the world to mark the days of Advent with the aid of a special calendar. Each day, a door or a window is opened to reveal a scripture quote or a figure from the nativity scene or perhaps a small gift.

Drawing upon the Advent/Christmas image that we have used for a number of years, we invite you to reflect upon “the candle in the window of a Providence person” as a promise of welcome into a circle of friends.

There is no more appropriate “window” for our Advent ponderings than that of Mary, the mother of Jesus and the first Disciple. As Thomas Merton proclaimed: “Mary,…was as pure as the glass of a very clean window that has no other function than to admit the light of the sun.” Thomas Merton (NSC, p172)

Each day in the Advent season we will focus on a different aspect of Marian spirituality as a “window” into the mystery of the Incarnation.

Please join us with your prayers and postings on this community blog: https://cdpsisters.wordpress.com.
